Dog Training

4 Training Courses To Choose From

What You Need To Know

Our goal is to help you to train your dog to a socialized and well-behaved life-long partner.

  • We do not offer Board & Train training programs. For us, it is important that the dog and the handler learn together to help build a relationship.

  • What is also important to us, is that your dog learns from the beginning on, how to stay focused under distractions.

  • We do not offer training for aggressive dogs, however, you can bring them for an evaluation. If we can't help, we know who can!

  • We are not a dog park. Dogs have to remain on leash until further instruction from the trainer.

  • We believe in a training system based on a strong and trustful relationship between dog and handler and we know it works!

  • Our training class is 7 weeks long. During these 7 weeks, we meet once a week for one hour. The first class is "Meet the Trainer" where you will also learn more about the class. You will NOT bring your dog to this first class.

  • If you decide after the "Meet The Trainer" first class that this is not the training course for you, DAK's Dog Ranch will refund your money for the class. However, once the second week of the class has started, no refunds will be issued.

Training Club Courses

What Are Training Club Courses?

These next three (3) classes are part of the DAK's Dog Ranch training club. You purchase a training package (detailed below) and you are free to bring your dog(s) to any of these three (3) classes.  DAK's will provide you with a stamp card with the appropriate number of classes ("paw prints") as the package you have chosen. Each time you attend with your dog, your card will be stamped. For those who have multiple dogs, you are welcome to bring all your dogs to a particular class or bring a different dog to each class. Your card will be stamped based on the number of dogs you bring to class.

This style of training allows you to try out all of the classes to see which one(s) best suits your dog(s)!

These are really fun training courses for both you and your dog! I hope to see you there.

1) Advanced Obedience Training

Most people train their dogs to sit and shake-a-paw.  But advanced dog training, that's another thing entirely. Only the most dedicated dog owners will take it further than basic obedience, which is really rather sad!

We make sure that our kids get the best education possible, starting with Kindergarten and ending with college, university, or an apprenticeship before heading into the workforce.

We teach them manners, and even how to behave appropriately in social settings.  Why not the same for our dogs?

Don't get me wrong... I am not saying that our pets are the same as children, because they're not. I can't get into all the behavior problems that come from treating our dogs like little people trapped in fur, but it's safe to say that as a member of our family and society, manners is just as important for the dog as it is for the kids!

Now, I understand that not everyone is interested in continuing on with their dog's training past "sit" and "down".  It's your dog, so you get to make that decision... if you and your dog are happy with just a basic level of obedience, then that's fine! But I know that both of you can be so much happier (and safer!) with a higher level of obedience under your belt.

Wouldn't you love it if your dog listened to you all the time, whether he could see you or not, if your back is turned, if there is no leash attached, or if a squirrel runs by?

The simple fact is that dogs like to work.  They like to have a job to do, and are happiest when they get sufficient mental as well as physical exercise!

What is the minimal training my dog needs to start this class?

Your dog should have a bond and connection with you (the handler) and a food or toy drive. Basic obedience must be completed at Dak's Dog Ranch or any other training facility.

What kind of temperament should my dog have?

People or dog aggressive dogs must go through an evaluation prior to attending Advanced Obedience Training class.

Additional Information on Advanced Obedience Training Class

Advanced Obedience Training class is an open, on-going class. It will be offered Mondays and Wednesdays starting August 30, 2021 at 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM. The training location will be provided to you at least 5 days prior to the start of training.

Scent Work Training

You don't have to own a military or police K-9 to teach you how to recognize a scent. In fact, your dog's age or breed doesn't matter.

What is scent work?

Scent Work is a sport that mimics the task of working detection dogs to locate a scent (e.g., explosives or narcotics) and communicate to the handler that the scent has been found. Scent Work is a positive, challenging activity that allows dogs the opportunity to use their strongest natural sense in a way that’s fun, engaging, and that builds and strengthens a foundation of trust between the handler and the dog.

What is the minimal training my dog needs to start this class?

Your dog should have a bond and connection with you (the handler) and have a drive to search. Basic Obedience may come in handy, but is not required nor always recommended. That is what I am here for, to help you train.

What kind of temperament should my dog have?

If your dog has an issue with other dogs, this won't be a problem for this class. The dogs will not meet at this training. If your dog is shy and timid around people, this training will help build their confidence.

People aggressive dogs must go through an evaluation prior to attending Scent Work classes!

Additional Information on Scent Training Class

Scent Training class will be offered every Saturday from 9 AM - 10 AM. The length of the course is determined by the number of dogs attending the training for the day, however, it will not be longer than 1 1/2 hours. Training will be held at the DAK's Dog Ranch facility.

ManTrailing Class

What is ManTrailing?

ManTrailing is a multi-faceted process used to find people. It combines the amazing ability a dog has to process shed skin cells and put them in chronological order to move ahead on a trail with techniques for knowing where to start and what to do when a trail seems to run dry.

Doesn't this sound cool? If you would like more information, you are welcome to attend one of our training sessions to see this awesome work in action!

Additional Information on ManTrailing

ManTrailing is an ongoing course and will be offered once a week on Sundays. October - April will begin at 10 AM. April - October will begin at 5 PM. The length of the course is determined by the number of dogs that attend the training that day. Also, as training progresses and the better your dog gets, the longer the course will be for that day because of the search distance. ManTrailing can easily be 2 - 4 hours long, so please make that time available.
